Day 10

If one accepts that one’s higher self lies beyond the mind in all its guises, then one must begin to look for ways to define and sense this subtler state. Initially this is extremely difficult to achieve. During all of one’s previous waking hours the mind has reigned supreme. How can one be conscious, and yet not rely on the mind?

Do not worry if you find yourself replacing internal dialogue with dream-like visions. You may even begin to fall asleep occasionally. This is only natural. The only time the mind has previously been permitted to rest was when you slept.

Keep persevering. Focus on remaining fully alert, but empty of distracting thoughts or visions. Think of your mind as a beautifully landscaped garden. Mentally remove unwanted weeds. Then become the garden, peacefully existing without the need to express yourself, growing in stature silently, motionless, and yet vital and full of joy. Don’t forget to breathe.
