At some point one may become disenchanted with one’s mediation. One may begin to feel as though the novelty of the experience has worn off, and that it is especially difficult to focus on the practice.

This is to be expected. And, quite simply, the problem lies in one’s expectations, and the anticipation of certain outcomes and results. But if one perseveres, and moves beyond these limiting notions, rich rewards are in store.

The mind is a complex being. On the one hand, it cooperates with one’s higher self and longs for new experiences but, on the other hand, its ability to reason and intellectualise circumstances and events gives it inordinate power which it is naturally reluctant to relinquish.

Be patient. New obstacles present themselves for a reason and, in time, shall be overcome.

With practice one will begin to sense the presence of one’s higher self. The subtle, yet powerful energies will begin to dominate proceedings. And whilst the breath is vital to the physical body, vibration is essential to the soul. The higher the vibration the more pure is the soul.

How can one soul represent purity more than another? It all comes down to evolution, and the degree to which one has cleansed one’s being, ridding oneself of all that would otherwise tarnish one’s true image of self.

Tune in to these subtler energies. Become aware of the presence of a world beyond thought. All, and any, attempts made to understand these otherworldly realms will be met with enthusiastic reply, whether you sense it or not.

You cannot begin to imagine the benefits in store, the many and varied changes that will begin to take place as a result of the efforts made to know oneself.

Meditation is less about entering a zone that it is about raising one’s energies beyond the physical and mental limitations of earthly life. The practice does not take one on a journey to a familiar, comfortable place, but rather it transforms one’s understanding of time and space.

Do not seek to repeat sensations previously experienced. There is a very real danger in identifying with past successes. One’s practice needs to be kept pure, and today’s lesson is unique.

Rest assured, however, that with consistent effort your growth is guaranteed. Expect the unexpected, and be without expectation. In this way you are always prepared for, and yet humbled by, the prospect of receiving greater insights regarding your spiritual growth.

Meditation ultimately facilitates the expansion of one’s consciousness, and a permanent refocussing of one’s attention to that which is beyond the limitations of physical life.

When one experiences such an altered state the true meaning of bliss is understood. And, whilst the early encounters with this elevated plane are only weakly perceived, they provide sufficient impetus for one to continue one’s efforts to master the craft.

One also finds immediately after the practice that one retains the sensation of living within, and beyond, oneself. It is as though one’s mind has filled the universe, that the top of one’s skull has been removed, and all of the stars and planets are contained within the newly opened sphere. One is present but also somehow vaguely absent from one’s body. One’s mind is clear, but also blank.

Gently go about your daily tasks. Spend the day as peacefully as your responsibilities allow. You have reached an important milestone.

It is not the length of one’s practice that matters, but rather the consistency and quality. And as much as it may be impossible to meditate everyday, for life will throw up unexpected demands, one will feel the effects when next one returns to the pre dawn ritual.

Subtle forces are at work when one meditates, and these forces permeate one’s being and linger throughout the entire day. When one interrupts one’s practice this higher vibration is severed, and one may experience a shock not unlike the sensation resulting from someone unexpectedly turning on a light in a darkened room.

One or two minutes of meditation is all that is required to maintain consistency during a busy period. And when there are no abrupt interruptions to one’s practice then the quality of one’s efforts will also be maintained.

There will come a point during one’s meditation practice when the natural inclination will be to hand oneself over to the control of the higher self. According to universal law the higher self may never impose itself upon the lower nature. But when the earthly vehicle, comprising one’s physical, emotional and mental states, is ready it may surrender to the will of the higher self.

This is an important moment, and whilst, outwardly, nothing will appear to change, far-reaching changes will begin to take place immediately and irreversibly.

You will know when you are ready. The point reached will indicate that you have no other option but to continue forward along the straight and narrow path towards your destiny.

And when you make this commitment you will begin to discover your true power and worth. The peace you’ve always dreamed of will be restored. Your life’s work will then begin.
